a nearby birthday

To all food fans - If you wanted something tasty/exciting for your birthday what would you get, or where would you go? I can't think of any cuisine or dish that I wouldn't be interested in, and with a week to go before my day I thought I would see what the word is.

Depends on the type of birthday you want - I know I used to like trying new restaurants, but recently I've been heading for my old favourites. What's your favourite restaurant in Edmonton?

CULINA!

Yeah, Culina wins every time.

I would definitely go out. There is not that much joy on cleaning if it is your bday. As to where... Well, that's a tough one. I think I would try to convince a (close) friend or two to go to a place of their choice. Of course, I would be footing the bill. If that's not an option, just go to a place that you won't normally go...

Culina or Red Ox.

Not Blue Pear, unless you want to take another mortgage out on your house. Kidding. Not.

Sharon - I hear what you say, as I too would typically branch out into the strange and unknown for the sake of it. Not so much anymore. No preference at all, but I'm more of a 'ethnic' diner than anything. So maybe if you can suggest something along those lines.

KimHo - It is nice to go out, if only I had your options. I like your idea about asking friends to their choice. This is sort of why I posted the question on my blog. I respect the opinions of our small group of local food bloggers, so it's nice to hear their favorites which can possibly save the 'bad' random new location birthday.

Culina 3, Red Ox, Blue Pear $ - Thanks for the suggestions so far

For ethnic but somewhere nice how about Mikado?

That's a thought, as I'm a big sushi fan and I haven't been to Mikado in a long time.

I think I spent the better part of my day asking people what there favorite restaurants were and surprisingly most people responded with chains. Where is the love for all our delicious one or two location restaurants?

Must be a sickness. One of my best friends LOVES the Outback.

Another possibility is Wild Tangerine. Good food if a bit inconsistent (and overpriced if you compare it to regular Asian restaurants).
